The Conlons and Matt Moran Sing Their Storytelling Songs at Orange County Songsalive! Showcase

Matt Moran returned to the stage for another set of songs and stories -- and believe us, every one of his songs has an interesting story behind it! Several folks in the audience (which was mostly familiar faces and Songsalive members!) were there specifically to see Matt, and some of them are even collaborating on projects with him both on and off stage. This is one busy guy. And that's good when music is your life! The Conlons came up next, with their unique brand of spooky story-songs and soaring vocal harmonies -- to say nothing of Doug Conlon's rockin' take on playing a skinny acoustic guitar. The crowd left impressed, and everybody was
exchanging business cards.  -Rod O'Riley

Songwriter/Producer, Danny Kravitz, Gives Insight into the Thought Processes of Professional Songwriters at Songsalive! Chicago Workshop

Songsalive! Chicago hosted a very informative workshop at the Beat Kitchen on May 12th. Four people shared songs and received wonderful encouragement and concrete examples of how to make their songs better.  In the second half, our guest speaker, Danny Kravitz, shared his experiences in the Nashville songwriting market.  He also talked about writing for yourself vs. writing for other people, and he gave us an incredible demonstration behind the thought processes of a professional songwriter.  He walked us through a re-write of one of his original songs.  Very interesting presentation!  We're looking forward to the next workshop on June 9th when composer & Professor Andy from "The Bozo Show", Andy Mitran, discusses, "The Business of Music Composition."

3.    First timers (whether Member or Non-Member) may only watch/audit the workshop (not present a song), but can participate in question/answer segment.

4.    Songwriters presenting a song for critique/pitch must:

a.    Bring at least 30 typed copies of your lyric sheet (with full contact details)

b.    bring your song on CD or perform live (bring your instrument - unplugged/no P.A). All CD's must be burned to work on a CD Player. Please check the CD first - if it won't play in your car CD then it won't work at the workshop.

Anyone who arrives post 12.15pm will not be eligible to receive a song critique, even wait listed. Workshop starts on time, 12 noon.

6.       Do I have to get a song critique? No. You don’t need to present a song for critique to benefit from our workshop. Watch, listen, participate and meet fellow peers. It’s all part of learning.

7.    We do not support late arrivals. Please be on time to be fair to our participants and guests and stay from beginning to end.
